A few weekends ago, Josh and I drove into the mountains to see the fall colors! It was our first time going this far into the mountains since we moved here. We picked a gorgeous day for sure. The aspens were absolutely gorgeous as you can tell from the pictures below.
We traveled the majority of the Peak to Peak byways which is Colorado's oldest scenic byway and was established in 1918. We got on the byway just south of Nederland and drove all the way up through Estes Park.
We stopped in the adorable mountain town of Nederland to walk around and give us and Huey a break from the car. We found a trail next to this stream that led us to a picturesque lake.
My two loves
We got back on the road after our walk through Nederland but soon stopped to take in the beauty of the bright yellow aspens.
I will always be in awe of these gorgeous panoramic mountain views
Beautiful colors- the yellow popped in front of the blue sky
The patches of aspens in the an evergreen forest were amazing. We hiked a little ways away from the road and climbed up a big rock to get this view
When we were almost in Estes Park, we drove past Longs Peak. This is the first 14'er that we've seen up close and personal like this. We can't wait to climb one!!
Earlier in the drive, we drove through the small town of Ward as well where the elevation is 9,450 feet. This is the highest we have ever been! Now my car has been that high as well!
Huey is turning into a mountain dog for sure. He loved smelling the fresh mountain air on our drive. This is my favorite view from my side view mirror.
It's snowed in the mountains last week so today's view of mountains was extra beautiful even though the construction in front wasn't.
I'm also happy to be in Denver just admiring the view of the snow where it was 73 degrees today. Stay tuned for more adventures!!
