Costa Rica was amazing!! I flew in early Thursday morning and met up with Amber, Kimberly and Kristin at their hostel in San Jose. We spend the day exploring the city which ended up not being as exciting as we'd hoped. It's pretty much all business and serves as more of a hub for travelers to then go off into all directions to see the beauty of Costa Rica.
I made sure to watch part of the US World Cup game Thursday while the girls got ready for the day!
This is a statue in the National Park called the National Monument depicting the Central American nations driving out American filibuster William Walker.
All of the McDonald's (they were everywhere in downtown San Jose!) had a separate outside counter just for ice cream. We enjoyed a chocolate cone during our walk!
This was a church in San Jose
Friday we headed to Playa Ocotal in the northwest section of the country. It's known as the dry section so we didn't see any rain while we were there although some dark clouds came in a few of the afternoons. Their rainy season just started in June and really picks up in September and October.
Road trip buddies!! The drive was supposed to take around 3 1/2 hours but due to some major construction, it took us closer to 5 or 6 hours.
Here's the beach club when we arrived...perfection!! That rock in the back of the pool is actually a water slide!!
This is the beach club closer to our villa and a short walk from the beach. Iguanas lived around this club so I was always on the lookout to make sure I didn't step on one when we came here!
Saturday we just laid here most of the day...such a hard life I know
There was an awesome restaurant called Father Rooster that was on the beach and a short distance from our villa. We had dinner here two different nights and came to watch the Costa Rica World Cup game Sunday.
I had the fish tacos both nights and they were the best I've had! (And I love fish tacos!)
Here's where we watched the Costa Rica game!
We walked to the beach to watch the sunset most nights. Gorgeous!!
Monday we took a boat out to go snorkeling!! The water was unbelievably clear! We saw lots of different fish and other creatures that live on the rocks under the water! Our guide took pictures of us while we were exploring
I love this picture of me and Kristin with the boat in the background
We parked the boat and explored a few caves and hiked up a hill for a great view!
We snorkeled at this island too but didn't see as many fish
I'll post about the rest of my Costa Rican vacation in a few days including getting to see sloths up close and personal!!!
